Report to follow

Breakaways beat Orchard Lads

Breakaways kept their Blackthorn British Skittle Championship hopes alive with an impressive away win at Mere against a very good Orchard Lads side, the group comes to an end this weekend, with Orchards Lads playing at Wool on Friday, and then hosting Brewers Bees on Saturday.

Old fixture books - Ladies?

I have been asked the question, 'When did the ladies league start?'

The first ladies section to appear in the fixture book was 1976-77.
The season before 75-76 the rule for qualification of players was, Playing members to be male, while the following season 76-77 the rule was changed to, Males and females shall not be permitted to play in the same team.
So I would take this to mean that the 76-77 season was the first time that the D&DSL had a ladies section.

These were the teams and alleys

Bessy Boobs, Great Western
Cyderettes, Brewers Arms
Cornwall Ladies, Cornwall
Cornwall Wenches, Cornwall
Eight Belles, Magpie S.C
Golden Bunnies, Goldies
Lady Killers, Three Compasses
Milborne Madams, Royal Oak
Milborne Misfits, Royal Oak
Pats Girls, Three Compasses
Rebelettes, Bulls Head
The Dolly Mixtures, New Compasses
The Leighers, Trinity Club
The Bulletts, Bulls Head
The Swingers, Trinity Club

It would be interesting if anyone can recall playing for any of these sides, and also if ladies played before 1976 in any other league.

Fixture Books 56-57

Sadly i do not have Season 55-56, so I am not sure if Section C had already started, but it is in the fixture book for 56-57.

Breakaways win away

Gazelles 310 Breakaways 339

Breakaways won away to Gazelles of Yeovil in Group 6 of the Blackthorn British Skittles Championship by 29 pins.

Breakaways now face Orchard Lads home and away next week in their final two games of the group.

Orchard Lads last night beat Brewers Bees at the Conservative Club, and will play the Bees at Mere next Saturday.

Imps back with a win

The Imps 335 Woolley Pigs 297

After two defeats last weekend The Imps bounced back with a win at home to Woolley Pigs from Winsham in Group 5 of the Blackthorn British Skittles Championship.

The Imps were in front from the start, as a 56 leg put the home side 13 pins in front as the Pigs struggled to 43.
The Imps hit another steady 56 on the second leg, but this time the visitors faired a little better and hit 54, to leave Imps 15 pins up.
Over the next two legs the Dorchester went further ahead with two scores of 55 and 56, Woolley Pigs legs of 50 and 51 gave Imps a 25 pins lead.
A 52 leg by the Imps, which included a stick up bolter from Keith Wyatt, gave Pigs a slight chance to get back into the match, but a 45 leg from the away side, left Imps 32 pins up going into the last leg.
Barry Knight finished the night with a 16 stick up (and 3 pints of Guinness at the Vic), as Imps hit a 60 leg, while Pigs hit 54 to give Imps a 38 pins victory.
Top score for Imps was Barry Knight with 48, while Rohan Jennings was top for Pigs with 43.

Next Friday Imps travel to Winsham to play the Pigs in the last match of the group.
