Wide Boys beat Imps again
The Imps  389  -  400  Wide Boys

Friday 5th Feb 10 at Gurkha

By Andy Fowler

On another cold night at the Gurkha, Wide Boys threw first and were indebted to James Dunham converting his single pin chance (15) as they struggled to 61.  Imps also found it hard work and hit 56 to go 5 behind.  The away side were throwing too many bolters as 54 was hit on the second hand although this lost just 1 as Imps hit 55.

Wide Boys got to 61 on the third hand as Andy Fowler took a pair chance to hit 13, which increased their lead to 7, as the home side hit 58.  A poor start on the fourth hand led to Wide Boys worst hand of the game (52) which Imps capitalised on hitting a very good 61 without a stick-up to move 2 pins in front.

Another poor score of 54 on the fifth hand looked to have left the door wide open for Imps, however they really struggled themselves in hitting 52 to leave the game all square with two to play.  Wide Boys were fortunate to lose just 1 pin, after they hit 56, as Kev Diment stick-up bolter was Imps only stick-up of the game.

Looking for a solid 60 hand to finish Wide Boys got off to a great start as second man Paul Leneghan took his crown chance for a 13.  The next four could only hit 24 between them and it looked like Imps would be chasing a victory target in the mid-50's.  Fortunately Andy Fowler and Justin Hallett both finished with 9's that got Wide Boys to a score of 62.  Chasing 61 to win Imps never really threatened as just 8 pins were hit by their first two players that left Wide Boys with a flattering winning margin of 11.

Top score for Imps was Terry Gosney with 58 whilst Andy Fowler took the Wide Boy's honours with 57.
