Spares spring a surprise
Section A

Thursday 20th November 08 at Colliton Club

Wide Boys  432 - 441  Colliton Spares

Wide Boys started the game with a very mixed hand of 57 that Spares were able to beat by 3 pins.  A 13 stick-up from Matt Slade on the second hand helped the home team to a score of 66 that gave Wide Boys a lead of 1.  Another close hand (60 to 61) brought the game back to all square after three hands.

Another 13 from Matt Slade gave Wide boys their highest hand of the game (68) but two stick-ups from Spares meant that they hit 73 to go 5 ahead.  Roy Fowler's 14 on the fifth hand (57) rescued Wide Boys score after there had been two 4's from the first three players.  It was actually looking like this would be good enough to pull some pins back until Spares anchor man hit a 14 stick-up to pull 4 more pins and move 9 ahead.

The sixth hand virtually sealed the game for the away side as Wide Boys could only hit 57 and after Spares totalled 69 it put them 21 in front.  Wide Boys skittled superbly on the last hand to score 67 (without a stick-up) but couldn't manage to take either of the two chances that could have really put some pressure on Spares.  As it was they hit their worst hand of the night (55) to leave a winning margin of just 9.
